Mosaic M – Thistle Mosaic

Chargement du panoramique...

This large room features two distinct mosaics. In the first part, a series of round and square medallions with plant patterns – serrated leaves owing closer to the acanthus than the thistle – are set in a guilloche grid. The second mosaic has a honeycomb pattern, in which the hexagons are alternatively filled with patterns comparable to those of the first mosaic, or with florets with large, cordiform leaves. The most plausible comparisons are with Syrian mosaics.
