Mosaic L – Star Mosaic

Chargement du panoramique...

Here the décor features a geometric composition of four tangent hexagons forming four stars each with a central square. It is less reminiscent of Gallo-Roman mosaics than those of the Near East. One characteristic feature of eastern mosaics is the semi-circular "silver plates" that adorn the triangular spaces formed by the star points, and that abut the mosaic's border. The regular use of rounded florets with a cross pattern has also been observed in a mosaic from a house in Antioch.
