Mosaic D – Bird Mosaic

Chargement du panoramique...

This mosaic is part of the "Syrian"' series, and it shows the challenges of laying down a geometric grid in a semi-circular room – hence a few compromises were made in the composition. The squares of the guilloche grid are filled with checkerboards and other coloured patterns. The band across the threshold consists of a garland of scalloped-edge leaves interspersed with tendrils and birds.
Stylistically, this mosaic is comparable to those found in Antioch, Lebanon, Greece, Albania and Turkey.
